The quirky studio behind the Rusty Lake games celebrates a decade of odd entertainment with the surreal puzzler The Mr. Rabbit Magic Show. In addition to helping a magician with his stage act – pulling a bunny out of a tiger’s mouth, for instance – you’ll try to break out of an escape room inspired by the developer’s offices.
What we love: The treasure trove of Easter eggs for long-time series fans. By the time you’ve lit the candles on the gigantic 10th-anniversary cake, you’ll have sussed out a clue from a crow’s-head mask, peered behind a painting of iconic game locations and had an ominous encounter with some familiar shadowy figures.
Quick tip: Playing cards are hidden around the magic-show theatre and the Rusty Lake offices. To find them, look at Maarten’s computer after the party – you’ll see three hints, followed by numbers in brackets that correspond to magic acts you’ll want to revisit.
Meet the creator: Rusty Lake is the name of both the supernatural universe of interwoven games (plus comics, music and a short film) and the Amsterdam–based indie studio that’s been making them since 2015. As a special tip of the magician’s hat for fans, the developers added themselves as in-game characters in The Mr. Rabbit Magic Show – and even voiced their own dialogue.
