Seeing your reference, the TV tube s not so "spherical", so I won't start from a sphere. I tried to get something like that:
in a very simple way.
- I created a vertical plane, and subdivided it about 40 times.
- then I added a lattice object all around the plane
- adjusted lattice subdivision settings: U:1, V:5, W:3
- applied a lattice modifier to the plane mesh, targeting lattice object of course
- then pulled some "front" lattice vertices outwards, obtaining a soft, uniform deform to the plane
- built a rough tv set box around the deformed plane
I can't detail more all steps now, I'm in a hurry, but I provide a sample .blend below, so you can see the setup. Let me know if you need more detail.
