2025-02-03send-pack: gracefully close the connection for atomic pushJiang Xin1-2/+2
Patrick reported an issue that the exit code of git-receive-pack(1) is ignored during atomic push with "--porcelain" flag, and added new test cases in t5543. This issue originated from commit 7dcbeaa0df (send-pack: fix inconsistent porcelain output, 2020-04-17). At that time, I chose to ignore the exit code of "finish_connect()" without investigating the root cause of the abnormal termination of git-receive-pack. That was an incorrect solution. The root cause is that an atomic push operation terminates early without sending a flush packet to git-receive-pack. As a result, git-receive-pack continues waiting for commands without exiting. By sending a flush packet at the appropriate location in "send_pack()", we ensure that the git-receive-pack process closes properly, avoiding an erroneous exit code for git-push. At the same time, revert the changes to the "transport.c" file made in commit 7dcbeaa0df. 2025-02-03t5543: atomic push reports exit code failurePatrick Steinhardt1-0/+30
Add new test cases in t5543 to avoid ignoring the exit code of git-receive-pack(1) during atomic push with "--porcelain" flag. We'd typically notice this case because the refs would have their error message set. But there is an edge case when pushing refs succeeds, but git-receive-pack(1) exits with a non-zero exit code at a later point in time due to another error. An atomic git-push(1) would ignore that error code, and consequently it would return successfully and not print any error message at all. 2024-11-21t: remove TEST_PASSES_SANITIZE_LEAK annotationsPatrick Steinhardt1-1/+0
Now that the default value for TEST_PASSES_SANITIZE_LEAK is `true` there is no longer a need to have that variable declared in all of our tests. Drop it. Signed-off-by: Patrick Steinhardt <ps@pks.im> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2023-05-06push: introduce '--branches' optionTeng Long1-1/+4
The '--all' option of git-push built-in cmd support to push all branches (refs under refs/heads) to remote. Under the usage, a user can easlily work in some scenarios, for example, branches synchronization and batch upload. The '--all' was introduced for a long time, meanwhile, git supports to customize the storage location under "refs/". when a new git user see the usage like, 'git push origin --all', we might feel like we're pushing _all_ the refs instead of just branches without looking at the documents until we found the related description of it or '--mirror'. To ensure compatibility, we cannot rename '--all' to another name directly, one way is, we can try to add a new option '--heads' which be identical with the functionality of '--all' to let the user understand the meaning of representation more clearly. Actually, We've more or less named options this way already, for example, in 'git-show-ref' and 'git ls-remote'. At the same time, we fix a related issue about the wrong help information of '--all' option in code and add some test cases in t5523, t5543 and t5583. 2022-03-17tests: extend "test_hook" for "rm" and "chmod -x", convert "$HOOK"Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-10/+4
Extend the "test_hook" function to take options to disable and remove hooks. Using the wrapper instead of getting the path and running "chmod -x" or "rm" will make it easier to eventually emulate the same behavior with config-based hooks. Not all of these tests need that new mode, but since the rest are either closely related or use the same "$HOOK" pattern let's convert them too. 2020-11-19t55[4-9]*: adjust the references to the default branch name "main"Johannes Schindelin1-41/+41
This trick was performed via $ (cd t && sed -i -e 's/master/main/g' -e 's/MASTER/MAIN/g' \ -e 's/Master/Main/g' -e 's/retsam/niam/g' \ -- t55[4-9]*.sh t556x*) This allows us to define `GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=main` for those tests. Note that t5541 uses the reversed `master` name: `retsam`. We replace it by the equivalent for `main`: `niam`. 2020-11-19tests: mark tests relying on the current default for `init.defaultBranch`Johannes Schindelin1-0/+3
In addition to the manual adjustment to let the `linux-gcc` CI job run the test suite with `master` and then with `main`, this patch makes sure that GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME is set in all test scripts that currently rely on the initial branch name being `master by default. To determine which test scripts to mark up, the first step was to force-set the default branch name to `master` in - all test scripts that contain the keyword `master`, - t4211, which expects `t/t4211/history.export` with a hard-coded ref to initialize the default branch, - t5560 because it sources `t/t556x_common` which uses `master`, - t8002 and t8012 because both source `t/annotate-tests.sh` which also uses `master`) This trick was performed by this command: $ sed -i '/^ *\. \.\/\(test-lib\|lib-\(bash\|cvs\|git-svn\)\|gitweb-lib\)\.sh$/i\ GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=master\ export GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME\ ' $(git grep -l master t/t[0-9]*.sh) \ t/t4211*.sh t/t5560*.sh t/t8002*.sh t/t8012*.sh After that, careful, manual inspection revealed that some of the test scripts containing the needle `master` do not actually rely on a specific default branch name: either they mention `master` only in a comment, or they initialize that branch specificially, or they do not actually refer to the current default branch. Therefore, the aforementioned modification was undone in those test scripts thusly: $ git checkout HEAD -- \ t/t0027-auto-crlf.sh t/t0060-path-utils.sh \ t/t1011-read-tree-sparse-checkout.sh \ t/t1305-config-include.sh t/t1309-early-config.sh \ t/t1402-check-ref-format.sh t/t1450-fsck.sh \ t/t2024-checkout-dwim.sh \ t/t2106-update-index-assume-unchanged.sh \ t/t3040-subprojects-basic.sh t/t3301-notes.sh \ t/t3308-notes-merge.sh t/t3423-rebase-reword.sh \ t/t3436-rebase-more-options.sh \ t/t4015-diff-whitespace.sh t/t4257-am-interactive.sh \ t/t5323-pack-redundant.sh t/t5401-update-hooks.sh \ t/t5511-refspec.sh t/t5526-fetch-submodules.sh \ t/t5529-push-errors.sh t/t5530-upload-pack-error.sh \ t/t5548-push-porcelain.sh \ t/t5552-skipping-fetch-negotiator.sh \ t/t5572-pull-submodule.sh t/t5608-clone-2gb.sh \ t/t5614-clone-submodules-shallow.sh \ t/t7508-status.sh t/t7606-merge-custom.sh \ t/t9302-fast-import-unpack-limit.sh We excluded one set of test scripts in these commands, though: the range of `git p4` tests. The reason? `git p4` stores the (foreign) remote branch in the branch called `p4/master`, which is obviously not the default branch. Manual analysis revealed that only five of these tests actually require a specific default branch name to pass; They were modified thusly: $ sed -i '/^ *\. \.\/lib-git-p4\.sh$/i\ GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=master\ export GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME\ ' t/t980[0167]*.sh t/t9811*.sh Signed-off-by: Johannes Schindelin <johannes.schindelin@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-04-17send-pack: mark failure of atomic push properlyJiang Xin1-3/+3
When pushing with SSH or other smart protocol, references are validated by function `check_to_send_update()` before they are sent in commands to `send_pack()` of "receve-pack". For atomic push, if a reference is rejected after the validation, only references pushed by user should be marked as failure, instead of report failure on all remote references. Commit v2.22.0-1-g3bca1e7f9f (transport-helper: enforce atomic in push_refs_with_push, 2019-07-11) wanted to fix report issue of HTTP protocol, but marked all remote references failure for atomic push. In order to fix the issue of status report for SSH or other built-in smart protocol, revert part of that commit and add additional status for function `atomic_push_failure()`. The additional status for it except the "REF_STATUS_EXPECTING_REPORT" status are: - REF_STATUS_NONE : Not marked as "REF_STATUS_EXPECTING_REPORT" yet. - REF_STATUS_OK : Assume OK for dryrun or status_report is disabled. This fix won't resolve the issue of status report in transport-helper for HTTP or other protocols, and breaks test case in t5541. Will fix it in additional commit. 2020-04-17t5543: never report what we do not pushJiang Xin1-0/+89
When we push some references to the git server, we expect git to report the status of the references we are pushing; no more, no less. But when pusing with atomic mode, if some references cannot be pushed, Git reports the reject message on all references in the remote repository. Add new test cases in t5543, and fix them in latter commit. Signed-off-by: Jiang Xin <zhiyou.jx@alibaba-inc.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
