This is super early, looking for directional guidance rather than a in-depth review. It will likely change a lot as we go along in incubating it.

I've left an issue on the repo - WICG/email-verification-protocol#27. It is my opinion that the explainer does not go into sufficient detail about the problem statement, the relative trade-offs between the solution and other solutions (e.g. OID or PassKeys), and so on. There is much more detail in the issue.

Given this issue is still outstanding, I don't feel confident we can make a qualitative position here as we lack the detail in the explainer. So I'll suggest we mark this as position: defer until the explainer is updated in a way that that issue can be closed. I'd encourage the proposal authors to read https://w3ctag.github.io/explainer-explainer/#introduction and perhaps work with their standards leads.
