Title I

What is Title I?

The External Funding Titles I, II & IV Department assists schools in meeting state standards by focusing on children with the greatest needs. The department's mission involves supplementing academic subjects like reading and math, promoting school wide reform, increasing staff development, and ensuring parental involvement. These efforts guarantee that the district complies with all financial and programmatic regulations.

Title I🎓
This program focuses on prevention and intervention for neglected, delinquent, or at-risk youth. The goals are to:

  • Prepare students for high school completion, employment, or higher education.
  • Facilitate the transition of these students from correctional programs back into education or the workforce.
  • Operate programs in local schools for students returning from correctional facilities, as well as programs for at-risk youth.

Parent and Family Engagement

Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement affords parents meaningful opportunities to participate in their children's education. Title I resources support activities of the district’s Family and Community Engagement Department (FACE) in building capacity for effective parental involvement, which includes training parents on how to work with their children to improve academically and training to improve their own literacy and parenting skills. For additional information, contact External Funding (713-556-6928 or email Ext.Funding@HoustonISD.org) or the FACE department (FACE@HoustonISD.org).
