Try the same algorithm directly on Java code, maybe the delay could be on
the SQL queries.

Thanks, I actually did have the JVM loaded. Through debugging, I realized it was my JDBC connection that was slow. I started a new thread for it. Is there any reason why the following code would take 13 seconds to load?
I'm using the java.so extension.
Code:
<?php
include_once('java/Java.inc');
$class = Java("java.lang.Class");
$sequelink =
$class->forName("com.ddtek.jdbc.sequelink.SequeLinkDriver")->newInstance();
$dm = Java("java.sql.DriverManager");
$con =
$dm->getConnection("jdbc:sequelink://FMServer:2399;serverDataSource=Clients",
$username, $password);
$stmt = $con->createStatement();
$results = $stmt->executeQuery($query);
$metaData = $results->getMetaData();
$numCols = $metaData->getColumnCount();
?>

Hi,
I am sorry, I could not reproduce this problem. The following script prints
{country=Columbia}
<?php require_once("http://localhost:8080/JavaBridge/java/Java.inc");
$map = new Java('java.util.HashMap');
$map->put('country', 'Columbia');
printMapFromPHP($map);
// Receive the variable by reference
function printMapFromPHP(&$map){
echo $map;
}
?>

I want send a variable that reference a Java object to a function, I tried
it on different ways, but I can not.
$map = new Java('java.util.HashMap');
$map->put('country', 'Columbia');
$this->printMapFromPHP($map);
// Receive the variable by reference
function printMapFromPHP(&$map){
// try to print, but not print
}
Thanks in advance.

To reference static methods, you could use:
$STATIC_REFERENCE = Java('package.ClassName');
$STATIC_REFERENCE->staticMetod(...);
To create an object (an instance of a class), you must use the "*new*"
keyword:
$object = new Java('package.ClassName');
So, you can create a static reference to the "Class" class and the same for
others.
$CLASS = Java('java.lang.Class');
$driver = $CLASS->forName("...")->newInstance();
I think that you don't need typecasting, remember, PHP is a dynamic
language.

Thank you for the quick reply.
How would I do something like this with typecasting?
Driver d =
(Driver)Class.forName("com.ddtek.jdbc.sequelink.SequeLinkDriver").newInstance();

I've installed the package and successfully tested it, my question is this: Why do I have to include the Java.inc? Specifically I've installed what I believe to be the standalone, 3.2.1 version on windows server 2003. I don't have to include the Java.inc. I have installed php-java-bridge from source 5.2.0 on ubuntu, which requires this Java.inc. I also need the java_autoload statement which comes from the test.php file. It is working sufficiently enough for me right now, but could anyone clarify? scott |

I can now create the JDBC connection in PHP, but it doesn't do anything
and just waits there.
Here is the code:
$con = new Java("DriverManager.getConnection(\"jdbc:sequelink://fmServer:2399;serverDataSource=Clients\",$username,$password);");

Hello Jost,
I think I am beginning to see what was happening. At the time this
starting happening I was editing, rebuilding and testing in a very tight
pattern. I suspect that I left some connections open and then tried to
open other connections before gc could clean them up. Also, Ithink I had
an unhandled exception going on as well.
I am going to try putting the close connection in the finally clause and
beefing up the error handling. Thanks for your help.

It won't happen again unless you change U2.class (or the Java library
archive which contains U2.class).

Hi, if you copy the JDBC driver to Java's repository (usually /usr/share/java/ext or /usr/java/default/jre/lib/ext), you can use the JDBC driver through the DriverManager as usual. You need a wrapper class only if you load the driver from the DynamicClassLoader (this is because the DriverManager is loaded from the system class loader, which cannot access the DynamicClassLoader at run-time). After rereading your web site, I noticed this comment. "Java knowledge is not necessary and it is neither necessary nor recommended to write custom- or glue logic in the Java programming language." Unfortunately I can't avoid glue logic since I need to access libraries called Uniobjects for Java that allow access to our nested relational MRP database. My problem is that I am not experienced enough with Java to understand what the error message above is telling me. I was hoping that someone on the list could help. The PbrGetMgrList method is in a custom Java object I use to access libraries on the web server and it has worked reliably for some time. The Java methods are only "stubs." Most of the work is done on the database server. Since rebooting the server last Friday, it has been running OK. I am uncomfortable not knowing what happened since it may happen again. Sorry I am not more knowledgable about the Java-Bridge. I installed on a
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon LAMP web server a few months ago. I remember at the
time that I went with the older version of Ubuntu because I found
instructions for that version. I has been working fine since then.
Recently I have been getting intermittent crashes and the error message
appeared to be referring to the Java code, so I suspected that it had
something to do with the Java-Bridge. I contacted this list hoping
someone had seen a similar problem in the past and could shed some light.
As to your question. What is the matter with the PHP/Java Bridge on your operating system? Well I don't know. That is sort of what I was asking.
Anyway, it appears to be working for now. And I have to get back to my
normal duties which is developing apps. Sorry if this was an
inappropriate question.

Hi,
sorry, but I don't understand this question at all. What is the matter
with the PHP/Java Bridge on your operating system?
I do understand that you have problems installing a standard web archive
file into a debian-patched tomcat. But why do you need to destroy objects
manually and which error message do you get when you deploy the
JavaBridge.war file into debian's tomcat?

Hi Micah, yes, we might update the debian binary in the future. In the meantime please install Java >= 1.4 and use the pure Java implementation of the PHP/Java Bridge instead: => http://downloads.sourceforge.net/php-java-bridge/php-java-bridge_5.2.2_j2ee.zip?modtime=1206907745&big_mirror=0 Regards, Jost Boekemeier __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? FYI. I tried something that has helped. I was looking over the PHP code
and noticed that I never destroyed the Java object, so I set it to null
after getting the result string back. I'm not sure if that's the proper
way to destroy an object in Java or not. Then to be safe I rebooted the
web server. It threw the error the first time I ran the code, but has run
several times since then no problem. I'm not warm and fuzzy, but I have
been able to complete my objective for this afternoon.
I appreciate any input and am going to continue working on this. We are
starting to move things to web interfaces and this is the only approach on
Linux that allows PHP access to Unidata. At least that I have been able
to find.
I appreciate any ideas and will continue monitoring the list.
Thank you very much.,
