I am trying to run a junit test case for testing whether the applicationcontext is initialized and it throws the following error. Is it something related to the xml or the java version. How do I fix this?

  org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanDefinitionStoreException: Parser configuration exception parsing XML from class path resource [tasospring-online-context.xml]; nested exception is javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException: Unable to validate using XSD: Your JAXP provider [org.apache.crimson.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl@82701e] does not support XML Schema. Are you running on Java 1.4 with Apache Crimson? Upgrade to Apache Xerces (or Java 1.5) for full XSD support.

This is the tasospring-online-context.xml

    What Java version are you running on? That message cannot get any more helpful. Commented Nov 15, 2013 at 18:46

You can add this to your VM Arguments in eclipse

-Djavax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl -Djavax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl

Works for me

FIXED!

It is because the Xerces parser is not used for parsing the context xml file. Sometimes, the ide does not understand Maven well. So, explicitly mention the dependency in the pom.xml file as

<dependency>
    <groupId>xerces</groupId>
    <artifactId>xerces</artifactId>
</dependency>

for the specific project.
