An ad unit is one or more Google ads displayed as a result of one piece of the AdSense ad code. You can create, customize and manage ad units on the "Ads" page in your AdSense account.
Ad units give you control over where ads appear, and our native ad units offer lots of flexibility in terms of customization.
Types of ad units
AdSense offers several different types of ad units. If a display ad unit doesn't meet the requirements of your site, consider using one of our more specialized ad units:
| Ad unit | Description |
|---|---|
| Display |
These are versatile ads that can show text, images, or rich media. They work well just about anywhere on your site. Display ads automatically change their size to fit your page layout and different devices (like phones or tablets). You can also set them to show specific, fixed ad sizes. They also work with AMP pages. Learn how to create a display ad unit. |
| In-feed |
These ads blend in with the content of your feeds, like a list of articles or products. They can be customized to match the content around them and fit naturally within your feed, providing a good experience for your visitors. Learn how to create an In-feed ad unit |
| In-article |
These are ads that look like they belong within your articles. They can be customized to match the content around them and fit smoothly between the paragraphs on your pages, making them feel like a natural part of the content and improving the reading experience. | Multiplex ads |
These ads appear in a grid layout (like a checkerboard). They show content recommendation-style native ads, making them blend in with your site. Learn how to create a Multiplex ad unit. |
| Search engine |
This is a search engine, powered by Google, that you can add to your site. When people search using it, they'll see ads relevant to their search alongside the search results. Learn how to add a search engine to your site. |
