Tip: Fitbit sends updates to everyone gradually over time. If there’s no update available, check again later.
Before you start, make sure your Fitbit is charged and that you have the latest version of the Fitbit app on your phone or tablet. Here are some things to know:
- If you update your Fitbit device right as the day changes (at midnight), your step count might be wrong for a day.
- Updates may take more than one hour to complete.
- To keep the update loading, keep the Fitbit app running.
To update your Fitbit device:
- Open the Fitbit app with your Fitbit nearby.
- Tap the Today tab

- Tip: This is only available when there's an update available.
- Follow the directions on the screen and keep your Fitbit close to your phone, tablet, or computer. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Fitbit app until the update is complete.

Important: You can’t use your watch while it’s updating.
- Swipe down, then tap Settings

To update the Fitbit app on your watch:
- Press the Crown.
- Swipe up to the Play Store app
, then tap the app to open it.
- Swipe up and tap Manage apps.
- Tap Update all.

Your Fitbit scale checks for updates by itself. When there's an update, it downloads and installs it. If you get a progress bar on the scale that checks for updates, wait until it's finished before you weigh yourself.
- In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab
