Adaptive Sound is a feature available on Google Pixel Buds (2020) and Pixel Buds A-Series (also referred to as Pixel Buds A). It optimize your Pixel Buds volume automatically based on the noise level of your environment. Moving from a quiet to a noisy place like a city street or subway will subtly adjust the volume to match the new background noise.
Adaptive Sound adjusts for sustained noise, rather than one-off background noise, to ensure a non-disruptive listening experience. Adaptive Sound is only available on Android and requires an Android 6.0+ device.
You can manually adjust the volume to disable Adaptive Sound temporarily. The system automatically re-enables it when the noise level in your environment changes significantly. To protect your hearing, listen at a safe volume.
If you're using Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, or Pixel Buds 2a, use Active Noise Control to dampen all unwanted sound around you. You can also use the Adaptive Audio feature to block unwanted noises while staying aware of your surroundings. Learn more on how to use Active Noise Control on Google Pixel Buds.
