Copyright removal request form

If your copyrighted content is on YouTube without your permission, you can submit a copyright removal request, which is a legal process. For most copyright owners, the fastest and easiest way to submit a removal request is by using our form in YouTube Studio.

In the YouTube Studio form, you can choose to automatically prevent copies of removed videos from being uploaded. This feature, which uses the same technology as the Copyright Match Tool, identifies potential matches for you to review and act upon. Learn more about copyright removal requests.

Copyright Match Tool

The Copyright Match Tool can automatically identify videos that are copies or potential copies of other videos on YouTube. The tool can also automatically identify videos that are copies or potential copies of videos removed due to a copyright removal request.

When matches are found, you can choose different actions to take, such as:

  • Emailing the uploader of the matched content
  • Requesting removal of the content
  • Archiving the match
The Copyright Match Tool uses the same matching technology as Content ID, but is easier to manage and requires fewer resources. Learn more about the Copyright Match Tool.

Enterprise Copyright Match Tool

If you often need to remove content and have previously submitted many valid copyright removal requests, you may be eligible for the Enterprise Copyright Match Tool. The tool combines the automatic identification of the Copyright Match Tool with the ability to search for content you believe is infringing on your copyright, and request removals for many videos at once.

If you don’t need to search and remove many videos on a regular basis, the copyright removal request form is the best option. Learn more about the Enterprise Copyright Match Tool.

Content ID

Content ID is designed for copyright owners with the most complex copyright management needs, such as record labels and movie studios. The tool is a content identification system that automatically identifies content that may be infringing on copyright by scanning YouTube uploads against a database of files submitted by copyright owners.

If Content ID finds content that matches copyrighted works, copyright owners can choose actions to take, such as:

  • Block a whole video from being viewed.
  • Monetize the video by running ads against it, sometimes sharing revenue with the uploader.
  • Track the video’s viewership statistics.
Content ID comes with complex controls that require ongoing management and advanced knowledge of copyright. Learn more about how Content ID works and how to qualify for Content ID.
Note: Many copyright owners prefer to use a third-party service provider to manage their rights using Content ID. These Content ID service providers act on behalf of copyright owners for a fee. You can find one in this directory.
