On the occasion of Constitution Day, Manipur's Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla called upon the youth to embrace their constitutional responsibilities and foster unity within the community. Reflecting on BR Ambedkar's ideals of equality and individual rights, he reinforced that the success of any constitution depends on the commitment of its citizens.

Bhalla was speaking during the observance of the Constitution Day held at the palace auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal. He said the Constitution of India came into full effect from Jan 26, 1950, but Nov 26 remains the day when India chose its foundational values — justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as the bedrock of the nation.

Speaking in honour of BR Ambedkar, the chairman of the drafting committee, the governor noted how Ambedkar ensured the Constitution protected individual rights, limited the powers of the state, and created mechanisms for accountability.“His emphasis on constitutional morality and equality before law remains one of the most relevant messages of our society today. As Ambedkar reminded us in his final speech to the Constituent Assembly, however good a constitution may be, if those who implement it are not good, it will prove to be bad,” Bhalla said.He said for the state of Manipur, the Constitution has been the anchor of democratic governance, social harmony and inclusive development.
