Follow-up investigations in Kangpokpi and surrounding regions revealed an extensive assortment of rifles, mortars, grenades, and plastic explosives.

Imphal: Security forces seized an improvised long-range rocket with nearly 40 kg of explosives from Gelmol village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.According to police, counter-insurgency operations across multiple districts led to the seizure of the rocket, which was packed with nearly 40 kg of explosives. The police said the device, along with a launching stand and a battery, indicated that it was ready for use.Security forces also recovered a large cache of weapons near Songlung village, including a German-made rifle, two bolt-action rifles, four pull-mechanism rifles, an improvised mortar, hand grenades, detonators and a radio set in Kangpokpi district.Further, a CMG carbine, a .303 rifle, two pistols, nine bolt-action rifles, a country-made SBBL, a locally assembled grenade, plastic explosives and communication devices were also recovered in the Gelbung jungle in a separate operation.Police said the recoveries highlight ongoing concerns over the movement of sophisticated weaponry in conflict-affected areas and emphasised that operations would continue.Investigation is on as authorities seek public help to curb illegal arms.
