Samir Soni, known for his work in films like Baghban, Vivah and Fashion, is now set to explore a new storytelling format. He will be seen in the titular role in Shakeb Sayed’s Chhupa Rustam Billionaire, directed by Shadab Khan, whose independent documentary I Am No Queen was featured at the 98th Academy Awards. Samir plays the lead, while Anjuum Faakih appears opposite him.Samir initially had reservations about working in this format, but the story persuaded him to come on board. Speaking about his decision, he said, “I had received offers for vertical formats earlier, but since I had never worked in this space, I kept declining them. When Chhupa Rustam Billionaire came to me, the concept instantly caught my attention.”The story revolves around a wealthy family that considers themselves superior and mistreats the people who work for them. Samir’s character enters their home as a driver, concealing a secret past. As the story progresses, his real identity comes to light and changes the course of events.Samir said that he found the storyline engaging and appreciated the experience of working on the project. He shared, “The series is directed by Shadab Khan, whose documentary was part of the 98th Academy Awards.
Shakeb Sayed has been extremely professional and supportive throughout.”Talking about his character, he said, “I play Tez, who appears to be a driver in a wealthy household. He has a hidden past and keeps a low profile. As the plot unfolds, his true identity is revealed.”Beyond discussing the plot and his character, Samir also reflected on the evolving nature of storytelling and how the medium has never defined his choices as an actor. For him, creative satisfaction continues to be the only true benchmark. He added, “As an actor, the format does not matter. What matters is the role, the story and whether it fulfils me creatively. There was a time when television was not taken seriously, then it became massive. OTT followed and now we are observing another shift with vertical storytelling.”
