India successfully carried out the first flight tests of its indigenously developed Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) on August 23 off the Odisha coast at around 12:30 pm. The system features a multi-layered defence shield, combining Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAM), Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and a high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement, calling it a major boost to India’s defence readiness. The test follows months after Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Officials called the trial a key milestone in India’s self-reliance journey and a strong step toward securing vital facilities from enemy aerial threats.
