Cyclone Ditwah, after wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka with at least 56 deaths and thousands displaced, is now advancing towards India. Currently over coastal Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal, it is moving north-northwest and is expected to approach North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh by early November 30. The IMD has issued red alerts for extremely heavy rainfall in districts including Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry, with winds reaching up to 90 kmph. Fishermen have been strictly advised to stay ashore, and coastal operations remain suspended. Rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are forecast across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Authorities have deployed disaster relief and rescue teams across vulnerable areas, preparing for evacuations and emergency response as the cyclone intensifies along India’s eastern coast.
