I have the following error on my product page editors out of nowhere. I manually update plugins and had no issues a week ago but have now noted this error:

Failed to load plugin url: https://mywebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/jetpack_vendor/automattic/jetpack-forms/src/contact-form/../../dist/contact-form/js/tinymce-plugin-form-button.js

It appears in pink at the top of the edit page. I can dismiss it but it appears on every editor page with TinyMCE editor

The .js file exists in the expected location and appears to be fine. If I disable jetpack, the error is gone. I do not use JP with any paid account, it was installed with wordpress and I have simply left it in place. I have authored my site and I do like the statistics it provides and I have disabled most other plugins to check and the error only disappears when I disable jetpack.

I have updated all plugins and cleared both site and browser cache and the issue persists.

I do not use any jetpack forms, I would simply remove whatever feature this is trying to load in the editor if I knew what.

Any ideas for a simple fix? It is not causing issues, just annoyance and my solution at this point would be disable jetpack but I don’t know if it is needed for anything important.

    Hi there, @jestermgee,

Thanks for reporting this, and sorry for the trouble!

The error you’re seeing means that WordPress can’t load the Jetpack Contact Form TinyMCE plugin file, which usually happens for a partial or corrupted Jetpack update, or missing or deleted plugin files on the server.

There are other possible causes (such as a security or CDN layer blocking the JS file, a plugin/theme conflict, or a file-permissions issue on the hosting side), but the corrupted file seems to be the most likely.

To check on this, try deactivating and deleting Jetpack entirely, and then trying to reinstall it, to see if that fix the issue.

To remove Jetpack, you can FTP into your site and delete the folder wp-content/plugins/jetpack. (If you’re not sure how to do this, ask your hosting company for help.)

After that’s done, you can reinstall Jetpack by following these instructions.

Let us know if that solves the problem. 🙂 Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply.

Sadly, a complete manual removal of Jetpack and a reinstall does not fix the issue. Only way I can solve the error is to just disable jetpack which is a pain to lose all the nice metrics on the admin home page but a functional site is more important and I just have no time to go testing every other aspect individually when the issue appears to be this plugin.

    Hi there, @jestermgee,

Thanks for trying that out – it’d be such a shame indeed that you have to give up with all the Jetpack features you enjoy for an error I am sure we can address 🙂

Let’s try some other troubleshooting options:

    • check for any security/caching plugins you may have enabled, and try temporarily disabling them to see if it fixes the problem.
    • temporarily deactivate all your plugins and check if the problem gets fixed that way. If it works, then reactivate each plugin one by one to find out which one is causing problems.

Let me know what you find out, and we’ll take it from there if necessary. Thanks!

I went through and disabled each plugin 1 by 1 and nothing resolves the issue other than disabling Jetpack. Is there any way to simply comment out the attempt to load the form button for the tiny mce editor since it seems that is where the issue is occuring. I don’t need any integration of jetpack in the editor and cannot find any way to disable that function

So I seem to have solved this issue and it appears related to website cache being enabled.

I had already purged the cache on my site and in my web browser during tests but I had enabled some caching in WordPress global options when checking settings as I had Cache set off. I now recall I set cache to off because I was having numerous issues with pages in the store failing to correctly update when visitors would visit and also security token issues.

I had a user today message me about the security token issue and noted the cache setting set to Level 2 so I set it back to level 0 and I note the error is no longer appearing. Seems cache just causes all manner of problems so will just leave it disabled.

    Hey @jestermgee,

Thanks for the follow-up and for letting that know how you solved the issue. We’re glad you got it done.

Can you tell us if the cache system you have to keep it disabled is Jetpack’s, or WP Super Cache? From your wording, it doesn’t seem so, but I’d like to check with you 🙂

If it’s something related to our products or plugins directly, we’re happy to check on that and see if we can figure this out. Thanks!

It’s the global WordPress Cache found in the main settings of wordpress. I do not have any caching or extra features at all enabled in Jetpack, the only thing it offered me is visitor metrics really as I just do not need yet another yearly subscription cost to make a basic website.
