Plugin does not connect to Memcached or Redis

    Since the last update this plugin is generating a debug log. We got notified by Wordfence.

    The log says:

    07/28/24 17:52:09 – Redis connect exception: Connection refused
    07/28/24 17:52:09 – ❌ Failed to connect Redis server!
    07/28/24 17:53:18 – ❌ Failed to connect Memcached server!
    07/28/24 17:53:34 – ❌ Failed to connect Memcached server!
    07/28/24 17:53:35 – ❌ Failed to connect Memcached server!

    This connection was working with Memcached on multiple sites prior to the update. Now I get the Failure to connect error on all.

    I also tried Redis and got the same message that it failed to connect to the server.

    Toolbox -> Debug Settings -> Debug Log is off

    I don’t want this log to be generated but need object cache. Without object cache my sites are running slower.

    do you have redis or Memcached server running ? and if so , please make sure the host , port , and user/pass are correct

    Yes they are running and I did not start having this issue until 7/25 which is the first date shown on the debug logs on all of my sites.

    are you using memcahced or redis ?

    I will provide you a standalone test script for connection test

    Hi. Same problem here. Memcache and Redis activate in cPanel > PHP 7.4 Extensions. Thousand lines like this in my debug.log.
    First = 07/23/24 10:43:52 – ❌ Failed to connect Memcached server!
    Last (today) = 08/26/24 14:09:22 – ❌ Failed to connect Memcached server!

    Please contact host and talk to activate Memcache OR Redis and tell you the correct connection data.
    Until then you can disable Object cache.

    I contacted Greengeeks support, and they removed Memcached. Here’s their response: “The decision to transition from Memcached to Redis was made to improve the overall performance and security of the hosting environment. Redis offers better scalability, more features, and improved security, which aligns with the latest industry standards and best practices.”
