We provide support and opportunities to highlight and encourage research centralizing Indigenous STEM knowledge, methodologies, and practices.
Indigenous students doing research within their own communities is empowering as we know the heartbeat of the problems our Tribal Nations face and we have our own ways of knowing and doing research to solve these problems.
Research encourages critical inquiry and shares new knowledge on solving problems within our tribal communities. Protecting our natural resources, protecting our cyber infrastructure, or preventing and treating diseases are just a few examples of the impact of research.
Encouraging high school, undergraduate, and graduate students to develop and conduct Indigenous knowledge research projects.
Driving transformation within Professional Societies for Entomology, Ecology, and Botany, testing approaches to achieving culture change with respect to inclusion of Indigenous representation.
AISES recognizes the value of relationships and the tremendous impact a mentor can provide to a student as they navigate their collegiate journeys toward their degree and their STEM profession. Often times, Indigenous students have not ever seen or known someone who looks like them in the fields they are pursuing. When our students do not have someone to look up to and seek advice and guidance from, this creates a barrier that often prevents a promising student from completing their program.
Our mentorship programs offer opportunities to meet one-on-one with mentors, nurture meaningful relationships, and receive guidance from Indigenous industry professionals.
Our program matches college student and professional AISES members in traditional and peer-to-peer academic and career mentoring.
The “Lighting the Pathway to Faculty Careers for Natives in STEM” (LTP) program supports the Indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands who are pursuing careers in academia.
