Why we like it

The latest edition in the excellent Horrified board game series takes on four classic monsters from Dungeons & Dragons — Beholder, Displacer Beast, Mimic, and Red Dragon. The aim of the game is to work together and defend the land against these monsters, while saving innocent citizens along the way — but be careful the monsters don’t attack. Horrified can get unexpectedly tense in the final rounds, and you’ll be surprised how tricky it is to work together and slay the beasts. You can play with different combinations of monsters, which means each game is different.

Why we like it

This brilliant game of deception and bluffing is sure to raise plenty of laughs. Each player picks a card, but only one of them will pick the Chameleon card. The object is to then play a word association game, with each player describing a secret word everyone knows except the Chameleon. It’s the Chameleon’s job to keep their identity hidden and bluff their way through by picking up on clues. The seriously silly fun.

Why we like it

This game is part of a recent trend for app-assisted board games — hey, there really is an app for everything these days —which syncs with your smart device and plays a clip from a movie soundtrack. You then have to guess the movie in 15 seconds or less. It’s safe to say it will best suit movie buffs, but can choose your favorite movie genres and movie decades.
