What is the best robot vacuum for pet hair? My cats and I have been testing options at home.
Automatic upkeep with shedding is something no seasoned pet owner would turn down. While the humble lint roller is still the most reliable line of defense for furniture and black clothes, the best robot vacuums for pet hair can take your hardwood and carpet maintenance off your hands.

Black Friday brings amazing deals on the strongest robot vacuums
The stronger the robot vacuum, the more expensive — that's the general rule that can make it tricky to find a robot vacuum that actually works on pet hair and a robot vacuum that actually works for your budget. Black Friday has the power to make those ultra-premium robot vacuums, including the best robot vacuum mop combos, significantly more affordable.

As many robot vacuum brands gear up to release their new models for the year in January, top vacuums from the past year tend to hit new record-low prices in the last half of November (and we're keeping track of the best robot vacuum deals as they drop). Suddenly, a robot vacuum with 20,000 Pa of suction power is the same price as the model with 10,000 Pa that you were eyeing a few weeks ago. Maybe a built-in livestream pet camera isn't just a dream feature anymore.
Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller
Best robot vacuum for pet hair on carpet
The Good & The Bad
- Market-leading 30,000 Pa suction power
- Counter-spinning roller brushes target hair tangling
- Suction boost mode for large particles like kibble and litter
- Physically blocks mop from touching carpet
- Relatively quiet for how powerful it is
- Can scale thresholds and door tracks up to 3.15 inches tall
- Edge cleaning isn't super accurate
- Not very slim with LiDAR tower raised
- Roller mop doesn't extend far enough into corners
- Occasionally eats furry rugs

Who it's for
The Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller is a beast of a robot vacuum for homes with multiple pets who shed a lot. Between market-leading suction power and a sturdy roller mop that's great at soaking up large spills, this would be a worthwhile splurge in homes prone to heavy-duty messes and plush carpeting.
Why we like it
Dreame currently holds the title for "highest suction power in a robot vacuum" with the Aqua10 Ultra Roller's 30,000 Pa, surpassing the most powerful Roborock vacuums by 8,000 Pa and more than doubling the suction of the most powerful Roomba. I put that huge number to the test in my own apartment, and the Aqua10 Ultra Roller delivered. After watching this vacuum leave a plush rug spotless after I covered it in clumps of pet hair and human hair, I knew its specialty was carpet. It has also aced the ChomChom test on a variety of rug piles where the layer of fur is harder to see, but I know my cats roll around there. Next to no fur or gray puffs turned up in the ChomChom compartment after Aqua10 Ultra Roller came through.
On hard floors, the roller mop design takes a more absorbent, more hygienic approach than a flat mop pad or dual rotating mops. The thick paint roller-style mop has excelled at sopping up large liquid spills on my hardwood kitchen floor. Instead of streaking the splatter across the floor as it continues to mop, the Aqua10 Ultra Roller mop rinses itself in real time. While I still think that flexible spinning pads (like the Roborock Saros 10R's) are more effective on pet hair and dander along wall edges, the laser on my Dyson V12 Detect Slim shows that the Aqua10 Ultra Roller wipes up most dust, hair, and other specks in the middle of the floor.
Past cleaning performance, the Aqua10 Ultra Roller is just a solid robot vacuum for homes with pets in general. Dreame armed it with some of the most accurate small obstacle avoidance I've experienced — I've had no run-ins with cords, pet food bowls, toys, or (fake) pet waste. The livestream pet camera is always appreciated, too.

Roborock Saros 10R
Best robot vacuum for pet hair on hardwood
The Good & The Bad
- Barely over three inches tall
- Dual spinning mopping pads scrub corners and edges closely
- Quietest automatic emptying I've heard
- Barely ever gets lost
- Auto-dispenses detergent
- Livestream pet camera is actually pretty useful
- Phone charger avoidance still isn't perfect
- Room limit in map is annoying for large homes
- Takes forever to mop
- I wish it came in white like the Saros 10
- Quietest automatic emptying I've heard
Our review
Read my full review of the Roborock Saros 10R or my comparison piece of the Roborock Saros 10 vs. Saros 10R.
Who it's for
The Roborock Saros 10R would be the best choice for homes with a lot of hardwood or tile floors. The Saros 10R offers literal wall-to-wall cleaning and the most detailed corner scrubbing I've experienced. Complete with automatic detergent dispensing and self-washing mopping pads, it's the best choice for pet owners who want to walk barefoot on their hard floors in peace.
Why we picked this
Shedding is hardly strictly a carpet issue — pet hair still accumulates on hard floors, and the Roborock Saros 10R is easily the best robot vacuum and mop for pet hair that I've tested. Its pressurized dual spinning mops excelled on the hardwood and tile throughout my apartment, reliably clearing floors of wet spills, paw prints near the litter box, and small dry debris like cat hair or litter box dust. The standout feature is the hinged mopping pad that can swivel out past the edges of the vacuum's circular body to scrub in 90-degree angles and along wall edges. It's a game-changer for those balls of fur that inevitably blow into the corners of your home.
In terms of dry cleaning, the Roborock Saros 10R is also one of the most powerful robot vacuums on the market. Its 20,000 Pa of suction power is only rivaled by a few other similarly expensive flagship models that don't mop corners as well. While the 10R wasn't 100 percent perfect with hair on low-pile carpet in my home, it still had a commendable track record with a variety of other messes: protein powder to kitty litter to long human hairs to whole Goldfish crackers.
The Saros 10R's smart mapping is also incredibly reliable. I tested it for months, and it made it to the right room or spot cleaning zone every single time — this is much of the reason I subconsciously opted to send the 10R out to clean whilst actively testing two or three other robot vacuums at home. The livestream pet camera is another smart feature that made me want to run the 10R while I wasn't home.

3i G10+
Best budget robot vacuum for pet hair
The Good & The Bad
- Occasionally on sale for under $400
- 18,000 Pa suction power is wicked at any price point
- Deals with dust for 60+ days without an auto-empty dock
- Can be stored under furniture
- Reliable smart mapping and small obstacle avoidance
- Live stream pet camera is so rare at this price
- Physical design looks outdated and clunky
- Mopping is pretty basic
Our review

Who it's for
The 3i G10+ is a genius space-saving hack for pet owners who live in apartments — its ability to "self-empty" (compress debris) without a self-emptying dock means it can be stored under furniture. With small obstacle avoidance, a livestream pet camera, and market-leading suction power for its price range, the G10+ is also the most robust robot vacuum that a budget shopper will find.
Why we picked this
This niche robot vacuum from 3i is easily the most powerful robot vacuum under $500 that I've ever come across. Its 18,500 Pa of suction power runs circles around other budget robot vacuums and rivals the suction power of several flagship vacuums that are double (or even triple) its price. This'll boost the volume of pet hair that's sucked up, which will all get compressed inside the vacuum body instead of emptying into a larger self-emptying dock. This takes care of dustbin duty for you for at least two months at a time.
The dust compression feature is definitely unique, but the 3i G10+'s navigational IQ is what impressed me the most about this cheap robot vacuum. Its initial mapping run of my apartment was highly accurate, down to deciphering between beds, credenzas, and even toilets. It even recognized each spot where there's a rug.
The presence of small obstacle avoidance is also impressive at such a practical price point. Pet owners who are concerned about run-ins with pet waste won't want to skip this technology — the G10+ successfully dodged my pet waste dupe (brown sugar) as well as an extension cord and socks. Did I mention the livestream pet camera? You almost never see that feature for less than $1,000 otherwise.

Eufy E20 3-in-1
Best if you also want a stick vacuum
The Good & The Bad
- Frequently on sale for under $400
- Shockingly affordable for a robot and stick vacuum combo
- Suction power of both vacuums is powerful for the price
- 75 day self-empty dust capacity
- Room by room smart mapping is quite accurate
- Dock is very compact
- Doesn't mop
- A bit loud
- Exposed motor isn't the most aesthetically appealing design
Our review
Read my review of the Eufy E20 3-in-1.
Who it's for
The Eufy E20 3-in-1 is an awesome find for people who can't choose between getting a robot vacuum or a cordless stick vacuum — because it's both. This convertible robot vac is a great way to maximize a tight storage situation, consolidating the automation of a robot vacuum and the handheld freedom to clean windowsills, furniture, and car seats.
Though the Eufy E20 covers three different types of vacuuming, it doesn't cover mopping at all. The ideal home environment would be mostly carpeting or rugs, where you wouldn't use a robot mop a ton, anyway.
Why we picked this
The entire pro-letting-your-dog-on-the-furniture crowd knows that couches, beds, and car seats get just as covered in hair as the floor. (Cat parents don't really have a choice — the furniture will be furry.) For such cases, Eufy saw that many folks' dream vacuum setup would actually be to have both a robot vacuum and a cordless stick vacuum. Thus, the E20 3-in-1 was born. It's a smart mapping robot vacuum that uses the handled piece of a cordless vacuum as the motor. To switch between them, you can pull the motor out of the robot vacuum body and click it onto the stick vacuum or handheld vacuum attachment.
The Eufy E20 excels as a shedding sidekick because of the variety of pet hair-covered surfaces it can clean — not because it's the most powerful robot vacuum I've tested or anything. The robot vacuum's 8,000 Pa of suction power is satisfactory for visible crumbs, kitty litter, and hair, fur, or fuzzies that haven't yet formed a cast on the carpet. For the more stubborn pet hair and better corner cleaning, you can simply whip out the cordless stick vacuum attachment. That bumps suction power to 30,000 Pa, which is stronger than any other robot vacuum in this list.
I had zero complaints about the Eufy E20's mapping capabilities. It created a highly accurate map of my bedrooms and bathrooms on the first try, and the app's color-coded map is much more intuitive than the in-app maps for other budget-friendly robot vacuums.

iRobot Roomba 705 Max
Best Roomba for pet hair
The Good & The Bad
- Occasionally on sale for under $600
- iRobot small obstacle avoidance is extremely accurate
- Most powerful robot vacuum without a mop
- Mopping version is available, though
- Dirt Detect works harder on dirtier areas
- Doesn't mop
- Roomba self-emptying docks are notoriously loud
Who it's for
A powerful vacuum-only robot vacuum for pet hair is a highly sought-after artifact on Reddit, but most high-end robot vacuums with strong suction are fancy robot vacuum and mop combos. iRobot is the only major brand with a vacuum option that targets pet owners who don't want to deal with musty mopping pads at all. Though the Roomba Max 705's suction power can't compete with other premium vacs on this list, the lack of water tanks could really appeal to folks who want to skip wet cleaning.
Why we picked this
The Roomba 705 Max has emerged as the most powerful Roomba to date, offering 170 times the suction power of the old base-tier 600 Series. That shakes out to 13,000 Pa of suction power, which isn't exactly revolutionary compared to the similarly-priced Roborocks and Dreames we've tested.
But the brush roll system is the real draw for pet owners: iRobot revived its dual rubber brush roll system. These lay parallel to each other and spin in opposite directions, excelling at pinching pet hair that's embedded into carpet. iRobot ditched this brush roll system with the rest of the 2025 Roombas, so I was psyched to see the return of this design after experiencing it with the Roomba Combo 10 Max.
While it may seem like a downgrade to some, many pet owners actually prefer their robot vacuum to not mop at all — it's sometimes easier not to fuss with tufts of fur sticking to the mopping pads or getting stuck in the tray. There is a mopping version of this model: The overpriced Roomba Max 705 Combo.

How to find a robot vacuum that works on pet hair
You've probably gathered that suction power is one major determinant of how well a robot vacuum works on pet hair. But the brush roll system is nearly just as important when choosing a robot vacuum to deal with pet fur. Two spinning brush rolls are far more effective than one at loosening fur embedded in carpet, and the separation between the two acts as an exit door for hair that'd start wrapping otherwise. Pet parents should definitely opt for a self-emptying robot vacuum — so much fur being sucked up will lead to a full dustbin faster, and you won't feel like emptying it yourself every day.
If hardwood or tile is prevalent in your home, the best robot vacuum and mop combo for pet hair will be able to sanitize the floor while mopping and then wash its own mops to rinse off any lingering hair
If your home zoo seriously needs the utmost fur-fighting power, though, I'd have a good cordless stick vacuum on standby — stick vacuums are just more powerful than robot vacuums in general.
Other robot vacuums we've tested recently
I tested several other top robot vacuums in the past that didn't make the most recent cut for this list. Some, like the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, Roborock Qrevo Master, Narwal Freo X Ultra, and various versions of the Roomba j7, were my top recommendations at one point, but have since been overshadowed by newer, more powerful models that are a better bang for your buck. I recently tested and was impressed by the Roomba Plus 505 Combo, which isn't in this list just because its more powerful sibling is the obvious pick for pet parents.
I've also tested some 2025 robot vacuum releases that were OK, but ultimately aren't a top pick for me. The Dreame X50 Ultra grabbed attention during its CES 2025 debut for its ability to "climb," though the fine print is that it can't scale thresholds taller than 6 millimeters (about 2.36 inches). A slew of new Dreame robot vacuums are slated to come out in fall 2025, among them a model with improved climbing abilities and a model whose self-empty dock can hold three sets of mopping pads. I'll be getting my hands on these as soon as possible and updating my top picks for this list accordingly.

Official Black Friday sale start dates vary by retailer. Target's early Black Friday sale runs Nov. 6 through Nov. 8, and more sporadic early deals are likely. Best Buy began dropping DoorBOOsters on Oct. 31 and will continue to drop more early Black Friday deals until the official sale starts on Nov. 20. Walmart will hold Black Friday sales in several waves: The first sale will run between Nov. 14 (Nov. 13 if you're a Walmart+ member) and Nov. 16. The second sale kicks off on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Amazon's official sale starts Nov. 20.
For the most part, no. The general consensus on the internet and in my experience, robot vacuums and pets can live together in harmony.
However, while no one *wants* their robot vacuum to be loud, but noise level should be a heavier consideration in households with skittish pets. The 10-second roar made by self-emptying docks can be extremely jarring — Roombas have the loudest auto-emptying I've ever heard, and I can see that freaking out a pet with sensitive hearing.
As of late 2025, the most powerful robot vacuum has 30,000 Pa of suction power, followed by a few other premium models in the 18,000 Pa to 22,000 Pa range. If you're not really eyeing the expensive high-end models, more budget-friendly suction power between 7,000 Pa and 10,000 Pa can still be highly effective on light shedding. Any robot vacuum with 4,000 Pa suction power or less will probably be more frustrating than helpful.
I've been testing robot vacuums for Mashable since 2019 — most recently in a three-bedroom, two-cat apartment.
Almost all of these vacuums were tested for at least four weeks. I put them through a series of standardized tests that cover the four main pillars of robot vacuum competence, while also considering overall bang for your buck. (The only model that hasn't yet been tested is the Roomba 705 Max, but that's in the works. I've tested and liked its less-powerful siblings — the Roomba Plus 405 Combo and Roomba Plus 505 Combo — so I feel comfortable recommending the 705 as the best Roomba for pet hair.)
Each vacuum tackles various spills, debris, levels of pet hair, and floor types. I also tested hybrid vacuum and mop combo models on various stains and spills.
I keep tabs on navigational accuracy when it comes to smart mapping my home, finding specific rooms and zones, and identifying small obstacles using LiDAR or cameras.
Your new robot vacuum should be a polite houseguest. I make sure each vacuum isn't too loud, an eyesore, or generally a pain to use.
Many robot vacuums automate their own dust bin emptying, mopping pad washing, and more — the more self-sufficient they are, the better.
