I think you misread the warning on hlines. You can still use hlines,
just don't pass the "fmt" keyword argument. Instead, use the keyword
arguments of the LineCollection, eg,
colors = None,
antialiaseds = None,
linestyle = 'solid',
offsets = None,
transOffset = None,#transforms.identity_transform(),
norm = None,
cmap = None,
pickradius = 5,

This error typically arises when the CXX extension code is expecting a
sequence but getting something different. I can't reproduce it here,
but I am running mpl svn and not 0.90.1. Are you installing from src

(remove site-packages/matplotlib and if building from src your "build"
subdirectory before reinstalling).
Can another 0.90.1 user confirm that this is a problem on that version?

Hi,
Sorry, if this has been brought up before, but I missed a while reading
the list.
When I updated my system lately, I also installed the current version of
mpl (0.90.1) and that gave me a DeprecationWarning that I should use
LineCollection now to get my horizontal lines. Well, I didn't figure out
how to do that until now.
(NB I have an own wxpython app which makes heavy use of mpl and mostly
uses subplot instances.)

Per Jed's suggestion, I did a boostrap install of Fink, into a virgin /sw
directory, then
/sw/bin/fink --trees=unstable install matplotlib-py24
which failed with
Could not resolve inconsistent dependencies!
Fink isn't sure how to install the above packages safely. You may be able
to fix things by running:
fink scanpackages
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bzip2-dev=1.0.3-1 bzip2-shlibs=1.0.3-1
which I did, with the following result:
Sorry, bzip2-dev is already the newest version.
Sorry, bzip2-shlibs is already the newest version.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Wx rotates text around a different origin (the upper left) than most of
the other backends (the lower left). I've added a bit of code to
correct for this.
But I also second John's suggestion about using WxAgg if you can.

Yep, I can use that. =20
Not only did that solve the yaxis label issue, EVERYTHING works much
better now. Under "Wx" there was some delay when resizing the window,
and the lines didn't look as good.

When using Wx as the backend and plotting a line: the y axis label is
overlapping with the y axis ticks. This only appears to happen when
using Wx; when using Tk, the label appears as expected.
I have tried many things suggested by mail archives and Google searches:
1. Change font size/face in ticks.
2. Change font size/face in label.
3. Use subplots_adjust.
4. Use custom axes.
The label still ALWAYS overlaps the ticks. It looks like the label is
being rendered on top of the ticks no matter what location the ticks are
at.
Am I missing something or is this a bug?
Sample of what I'm trying to do:

matplotlib.use('Wx')
import pylab
pylab.title ("Intial Velocity vs Residual Velocity")

I am having a similar problem. However I can't seem to get matplotlib
to compile at all. It fails when it can't find png.h.
At the beginning, it says it can find freetype and libpng, but can't
find the appropriate header files. I have found them here:
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/usr/X11/include
So the question is, how can I/we get matplotlib to use the included
versions of freetype and libpng instead of downloading and compiling
other versions?

Jeff, I think you need to delete the WXAgg accelerator module in your "site- packages/matplotlib/backends" directory. It will have a name like "_wxagg.so", "_wxagg.pyd", or "_wxagg.dll". Ken |

Here is a simplest-possible code fragment to illustrate: from pylab import * F = 6 * (rand(20,20) - 0.5) G = 8 * (rand(20,20) - 0.5) clevs = arange(-5,6) subplot(2,1,1) contourf(F, clevs) colorbar() subplot(2,1,2) contourf(G, clevs) colorbar() show() For additional information: 1) In the matplotlib examples directory, look for all the examples that use contourf. 2) Look at the contourf (and other) docstrings. Well, technically this is not a problem, since you can add several toolbars with addToolBar. But well, you are right, this would look awkward, two times the same toolbar... But anyhow, I am calling addToolBar in the class FigureManagerQT, which is not able to handle more than one plot in a window it seems to me (am I missing something?). If, on the other hand, you create your own QMainWindow, there is no problem putting the toolbar like it was done classically. I added an example for that to the patch request ID 1828848 (Qt4 backend improvement). I don't know your code, but it is possible, maybe even probable, that it works even with my modifications, as I did not change the class structure. Only possible incompatibilities I could see is if you are inheriting FigureManagerQT and doing something in there. So in the end I think my patch is still a good idea.
