Building matplotlib requires linking against libpng and freetype. The error you posted is just saying that libpng can't be found. Building matplotlib correctly on osx and windows isn't for the feint of heart. Have you tried the pre-built osx binaries available for download on sourceforge? Charlie On 10/9/06, R. Al, if you have latex/ghostscript/dvipng on your system, you can set text.usetex = True in your rc settings, and you will get the results you expect. See http://www.scipy.org/Cookbook/Matplotlib/UsingTex for more information. Darren P.S.: It looks like this is somewhat improved with mathtext2, which is still in development. |

Dear all,
I've just started using matplotlib for some data processing and
plotting and have ported one of my existing Matlab scripts to python.
However, I have been unable to get the following working properly in
python. In Matlab, this works:
xlabel('Normalised \psi''''_x', 'Interpreter', 'tex')
(The 'Interpreter', 'tex' bit is unnecessary if
'DefaultTextInterpreter' is set to 'tex')
However, the translation into matplotlib doesn't work:
xlabel(r"$\rm{Normalised}\ \psi''_x$")
I've also tried some other variations such as:
xlabel(r'$\rm{Normalised}\ \psi\'\'_x$') or
xlabel(r'$\rm{Normalised}\ \psi_x\'\'$') etc
The single quotes do not appear in the label. Is this just a
limitation of matplotlib, or is there some way to work around it?
Many thanks in advance,
Al

Hi all, after some searches, I have fixed some r_ticks problems on polaraxes, then I send you the new version of the windrose file, which I hope bugs are removed. You can now make two types of plot, bar and fill, and play with the resulting table of events,in number of counts or in percentage. Usage: import windrose freq,ax=windrose.windplot(speed_array,direction_array,counts=False,speed_classes=[1,2,3,4,5],sectors=18,style='bar') Hope someones use it :-) PS: Sorry if my english is bad -- Lionel Roubeyrie - lro...@li... There is an example for how to save charts to a file (which is what I do) and another one for streaming the charts back to the user. The only issue I have faced is that matplotlib is slow for my chart types (takes about 0.8 seconds to do a chart). I'm hoping that future version of matplotlib will be faster. Guys at stockcharts.com generate charts in about 0.3 seconds. So matplotlib (for the charts I generate) is about 2.5 slower than what they use. For most people that might not be an issue, but since I pre-generate 100,000s of graphs daily it can cause a lot of pain. Vineet __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi all, I have found some bugs in my previous windrose plotter posted here, then I try to remove them and set some improvements. Now I have a problem with rgrids labels on polar axes, they disappear after a draw() command, and when I use Rectangle on a polar axes, theview is not scaled, I have to make a draw() (and rgrids labels go away :-( ). -- Lionel Roubeyrie - lro...@li... Hi,
I'm trying to create an image on screen, and update it with new data. It
works to have the data added, but my images keep showing the old data.
I'm plotting sin(x) through the time, and every .5 seconds, I redraw the
image.
figure.hold(False)
a = figure.add_subplot(111)
t = arange(low,upper,0.01)
s = sin(2*pi*t)
a.plot(t,s)
This is called first with low=0, upper=5, then with low=1, upper=6 etc.
What I want is to see only 5 seconds, with the data moving off on the left
side. However, what I see is that the old data is retained, and the sine is
squeezed more and more.
Does anyone know how to change this?
Regards,
Chris Niekel

Vineet Looks very good! Only thing is that when you change search types, the "working" highlighter should be located near the search form, not at the page bottom (I missed it the first few times...) Any change you could share back with the community the approach you followed - web framework used? integration strategy? deploy- ment and setup issues? graph creation methodology? I am looking to tackle a project with multi-chart reporting component features and would really love to use Matplotlib with it.... but am not quite sure where to start. Thanks! Derek >>> Vinj Vinj <vin...@ya...> 2006/10/06 06:49:19 PM >>> Hi, I've been working hard on www.eswap.com. It's matplotlib powered. I would like to thank the matplotlib community and especially John H. for making this possible. Some of the features are: 1. See 20 (professional looking) charts per page 2. You can tag stocks with keywords 3. You can create your own sets and portfolios 4. keyboard navigation. You can use the right arrow key and left arrow key Scanning, Modelling and Back Testing are planned for release early next year. Can you give it a spin and let me know how you like it? A quick (an easy?) question: I have a numeric, integer label which I am using for the X-axis. Numbers start from 1, up to "something large". When "something large" is less than 10,000 the numbers appear as normal, in 1000 or 2000 interval steps. However, if the "something large" exceeds that, the numbers are formatted in exponential notation. ie. 0.2 0.4 0.6... followed by a rather large and ugly-looking x1e+4 which appears on the same line as the X-axis legend. Is there is a simple way to avoid exponential notation? Thanks Derek -- This message is subject to the CSIR's copyright, terms and conditions and e-mail legal notice. As to your question: I have no idea WHY previews are needed. I only know they are required by some publishers if you submit a paper to them (which was my original reason for asking). HTH Christian |

I posted this on scipy-user ML, then tried here and it bounced (?), so now I'm trying again. Sigh... OK, so I can't import pylab, but everything else (import numpy, scipy, matplotlib and gtk) works fine. These are installed: scipy.__version__ returns '0.5.1' numpy.__version__ returns '1.0rc1' matplotlib.__version__ returns '0.87.6' My options in setup.py for matplotlib was set to build Agg and GTKAgg ( = 1) only, the others all = 0. If I leave them at 'auto' as per default, matplotlib doesn't build (?). I use Ubuntu Dapper - AMD64. Over the weekend I managed to find the cause of the problem: Me. I set Agg = 1, GTKAgg = 1 and GTK = 1 (the rest = 0) in setup.py and now the pylab interface is happy. Previously GTK = 0 and it seems pylab was looking for a shared library that's built if GTK = 1. -- wh |

Hi,
The following generates a plot, but the x axis label is missing. Am I
doing something wrong? In any case, can anyone suggest a solution or
workaround?
This has been tested with the version of matplotlib in Debian etch
(0.87.5).
Thanks in advance.
Faheem.
