Try to disable all PHP extensions. I'd be very surprised if the problem persists.

This has noting to do with the PHP version, the Java bridge version or with Java or with the Tomcat version.

I thought that maybe I have to change something in Tomcat's configuration files in order to set it to work with PHP.

  PHP works fine with Apache, but how can I use php/java bridge if I don't use Java application server (i.e. Tomcat)? I can't use pure PHP solution because of performances.

  A different server api won't make a difference. If PHP is  crashing frequently, there's some problem with the PHP setup (php  module crashing) or with PHP itself. 
  
  For example the following code crashes PHP immediately:
  
  function f () { f(); }
  f();
  
  Most likely the crashes happen due to some deprecated PHP module.

  I have the problem to deploy PHP/Java bridge version 5.1.2 or 4.3.1 to the Tomcat. When I try to start it from Web browser I'm getting a plenty of messages "CGI / FastCGI has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". 
  However, the problem does not exist if I use php-java-bridge 3.2.1.
   
  I'm using Java JDK 1.6 update 4, Tomcat 6.0, PHP 5.2.5 and Apache 2.2

all you need is the PhpJavaServlet in the back end and, if you don't want to call
the back end trough raw PHP fread/fwrite calls, the Java.inc (you can fetch the
Java.inc from the Servlet, or store it locally).

It needs JavaBridge.jar and php-servlet.jar and the web.xml which declares the servlet stored
in php-servlet.jar.

You can use the JavaBridge.war as a template; JavaBridge.war is actually just a sample web archive
which contains some PHP examples.

Right. Just rename JavaBridge.war to foo.war and change your apache PHP script to

Just rename JavaBridge.war to myBackendApp.war, add the libraries and/or PHP files you need
to the myBackendApp.war zip archive and you're done.

Note that the Java files are distributed under the MIT License, so you can do whatever you want

I see from the INSTALL.J2EE that I must deploy my "myBackendApp.war", and that the example uses the JavaBridge.jar.  I see that I must edit my Java.inc target to reflect this new web context, ie http://127.0.0.1:8080/myBackendApp.  Am I to understand that all that is required is the Java.inc in order to access myBackendApp, and that I will not need any deployed JavaBridge.war in order to communicate via the apache php and the tomcat java?

Building this particular backend war requires quite a bit of effort, but in addition - much of it includes production-ready deployment scripts, so knowing whether or not I must integrate the JavaBridge into deployment is very important.

Thank you for all of your hard work and time, I shall be sure to try and answer some of the posts on the threads as I become more familiar / confident with the package.

Yes. Just type /usr/local/java -jar JavaBridge.jar SERVLET:somePort 3 logfile.log to enable PHP
Java support.

For integrating a payment gateway for our web site, our org has been asked to configure PHP with java support. We thought of using WHM's (we use a cPanel linux server running CentOS) EasyApache to rebuild Apache and PHP with Java, but when we clicked on the 'More info' link next to Java in EasyApache, it took us to the following page: http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.java.php
 
 Unfortunately, the page also warns that the php extension is unstable and may be given up in future php versions. The comments on that page then point to php-java bridge and recommend it highly: http://php-java-bridge.sourceforge.net/pjb/
 
Our questions are:

1.) We already have JDK 1.4.2 at /usr/local/. Does this mean we already have java running or that php has java support?
2.) If we were to use php-java-brdige, will it meet our gateway provider's requirement of having PHP with java support? Basically, the shopping cart is a php/mysql thing, so the php application needs to call certain .jar files relevant to the payment gateway.
3.) If we install php-java-bridge, can we remove the jdk

 We are running a VPS (Virtuozzo on 64-bit kernel), but we don't have a great IT team to support us as we are an org, so I am hoping someone here could guide us about the Java support.

I have disabled mod_jk and enabled mod_proxy as per your suggestion, but th=
e
problem is still the same. If I put test123.php under JavaBridge, it works
fine. But whereas if I put test123.php under Apache DocumentRoot, it still
gives me the same error. The code I am trying to execute in test123.php is
following:

I am able to access http://localhost/JavaBridge and execute PHP scripts

JavaClasses on Tomcat correct? What are the better alternatives to this
setup?

JavaBridge. Here is my setup:

[Runs PHP
[Serving as back-end,
Scripts]
using mod_jk connectors]

I want to use PHP/Java Bridge to call Java Classes for some backend
operations. Following is my setup configuration:

OS: Windows XP
Apache: 2.2.6
PHP: 5.2.4
Tomcat: 5.0.24

I have done following under installation of JavaBridge:

1. Copied JavaBridge.war in webapps folder of tomcat.
2. Restarted Tomcat server.
3. I can access http://localhost/JavaBridge
4. Copied test.php into Apache/htdocs folder.
5. Access to http://localhost/test.php is giving following error:

I am sorry, but I don't understand the above sentence. 

Do you want to use the static loader? All you need to do is to copy dang.jar to the tomcat
WEB-INF/lib directory and re-start tomcat.

The only advantage the zend_extension offers is binary compatibility. 

We could as well leave everything as it is and add a note that users can load the
java.so as a zend_extension, if they want to.

this means that there's a bug in your application logic. It probably does not check
for exceptions (OutOfMemoryError probably).

Please check the back end log for details.

Hello all,

I have this weird problem end i don't know where to start debugging. I have
this search engine JAVA Lucene build with php/javabridge, so i don't use the
'converted' php interface but the original java jar. When my application is
searching (which is quite expensive with resources because of complex
queries) and another user on another pc starts another search, the objects
used for searching are suddenly dropped in the first search so i get a 'call
to a member function on a non object' fatal error. Any idea what could be
the problem? increasing the number of threads? any other suggestions? thanks
in advance!
