The JIT compiler from the OpenJDK generates code which executes up to 5 times faster than the code generated from GCJ. i've installed IBM's jdk se 6 locally, which java /home/sc/jdk16-ibm/bin/java java -version java version "1.6.0" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pxa6460sr1-20080416_01(SR1)) IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, J2RE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Linux amd64-64 jvmxa6460-20080415_18762 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled) J9VM - 20080415_018762_LHdSMr JIT - r9_20080415_1520 GC - 20080415_AA) JCL - 20080412_01 and the php-java-bridge builds "--with-java=$HOME/jdk16-ibm", installs without error. i'm on a shared Apache host, and note that on nav to my site, "top" shows, 1463 sc 15 0 81800 38m 25m S 0 0.2 0:00.12 gij-4.1 which is the gcc JIT, of course. as the host/server ENV is independent of _my_ ENV, i'm guessing that to get the server to invoke the IBM JIT for "my" php-java-bridge/jjava.so extension, i need to specify some AddHandler directive in my .htaccess ? if so, are there any docs/examples on this ? (haven't found any yet ...) or, different method? thanks! |

Hi,
probably

supports only 32 Bit code generation.
Please use a real Java implementation instead. -- GCJ compilation is a waste of time, anyway. The JIT compiler from the OpenJDK generates code which executes up to 5 times faster than the code generated from GCJ.

hi, i'm doing a 1st install of php-java-bridge_5.2.2. reading @: http://php-java-bridge.sourceforge.net/doc/faq.php i note: #Can I use Java libraries without installing java? Yes. On a GNU operating system (e.g.: GNU/Linux, GNU/windows (aka "cygwin"), ...) you can use the GCC compiler to compile Java classes to native code. Simply compile the C based extension and omit the --with-java= configure option. The bridge will use the libgcj library, which is part of the GNU gcc compiler. This library also uses much less system resources (memory, files) than a "real" Java VM. on my box, uname -o GNU/Linux -> Debian gcj --version gcj (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-20) autoconf --version autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.62 libtool --version ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 2.2.4 automake --version automake (GNU automake) 1.10.1 which java /home/sc/jdk/bin/java java -version java version "1.6.0_06" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode) but @, cd php-java-bridge-5.2.2 phpize ./configure the process dies at, ... FATAL: Native compilation not supported on this system. Install a java SDK and run: ./configure --with-java=<JAVA_HOME> Back-end configuration failed. Please install the recommended autoconf, libtool and automake versions or disable back-end configuration and use the pre-compiled J2EE back-end: ./configure --disable-backend --with-java=<JAVA_HOME> configure: error: ./configure.gnu failed for server i thought i had the prereqs taken care of for a java-less install. what am i missing? thanks! |
