Thank you so much.

Now the config files are being loaded by the API from the java.ext.dirs

I also successfuly compiled and installed PHP/Java Bridge on Solaris and
it's doing very well through the final development stages before going to
testing and production.

I really appreciate your help and patience.

is it possible to split ít into two packages, one
containing the java.so and the other one the back end
(presumably "JavaBridge.war")?

What about requiring a tomcat servlet engine as a
default back end on all operating systems? Those who
don't or can't use a java.so may use the pure PHP
implementation by "require()"ing the Java.inc built
into the back end.

The others can install an additional debian package
providing the java.so and a java.ini file. The pure
PHP implementation has been programmed so that it
automatically uses the java.so, if available.

Do you have any numbers? Even if the pure PHP
implementation is 5 times slower than the C
implementation on some operating systems (which I
believe isn't the case), other technologies are even
more expensive.

Isn't it possible to optmize the particular code block
so that the bridge can send an XML image to the back
end and/or to receive the result in one call?

The main problem with compiling a windows dll is that
it needs a proprietary tool. The pecl4win people have
the necessary infrastructure.

After 4.0.8 is released in June, we can think about
changing the license of the C implementation back to
PHP3 and donate the C code to the pecl maintainers (if
they want it).

how does this differ from the 4.0.1 based package? 

Except for the version number the C based extension
should be the same. :)
