Thank you, I'll see if I can select the user that tomcat is running in. Running "java -jar JavaBridge.jar" as a normal user does not exhibit this problem. ---kent-(- |

Hi,
> [...]I would just like to remove the everyone execute permissions.
Java uses a fine grained access control mechanism built into the VM, which is similar to Security
Enhanced Linux or the mechanism built into Vista. However, even with SEL and Java access control
enabled, one shouldn't run Java from the super user account.
Depending on the VM version, Java creates JIT code in /tmp or in some subdir of home directory.
Therefore this directory needs execute permission.

Hi,
as most modern Mac operating systems are based on Mach + Unix emulation layer, no special build or
deploy instructions are needed.
Please note that, in order to use all features, Java 6 or Java 7 is required. The bridge still
runs under Java 1.4, but some features, such as JSR223, may not be available.

Jost Boekemeier

Hi: System: Mac Pro OS: 10.5.2 I copied test.php from /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/webapps/ JavaBridge to ~/Sites/JavaBridge/test.php for this example: http://localhost/~kent/JavaBridge/test.php Works great. http://localhost:8080/JavaBridge/test.php Displays a blank page and the following error in catalina.err: > May 3, 2008 10:27:20 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext > log > INFO: /var/root: Permission denied Permissions on /var/root (root's login directory) were: 750, I needed to allow everyone execute permissions to /var/root: $ sudo chmod 751 /var/root to have this error go away - the test.php and the PHP/Java Bridge examples page now display. What is tomcat and JavaBridge doing that needs access to /var/root ? Here is how I installed the php/Java bridge: I installed tomcat and php via port: sudo port install php5 +fastcgi fcgi # php-cgi needed for Java/PHP bridge sudo port install tomcat5 # Appache TomCat needed for Java/PHP bridge I downloaded php-java-bridge_5-1.2.2_j2ee.zip from sf.net, unziped it and placed the JavaBridge.war file into /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/ webapps/. I copied test.php and java/Java.inc to the ~/Sites/ JavaBridge directory. Then updated the php_exec to point to port's php- cgi: $ unzip php-java-bridge_5-1.2.2_j2ee.zip $ cd php-java-bridge_5-1.2.2_j2ee $ cp JavaBridge.war /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/webapps/ $ cp /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/webapps/JavaBridge/java/Java.inc ~/ Sites/JavaBridge/java/Java.inc $ cp /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/webapps/JavaBridge/test.php ~/Sites/ JavaBridge/test.php I edited /opt/local/share/java/tomcat5/webapps/JavaBridge/WEB-INF/ web.xml and added support for my Macport installed php: <init-param> <param-name>php_exec</param-name> <param-value>/opt/local/bin/php-cgi</param-value> </init-param> Everything seems to be running, I would just like to remove the everyone execute permissions. I did look for a php/Java Bridge Macintosh 10.5 HOWTO and didn't see on using google or the sf.net mail list archive search. I still need to install this on my laptop development system. Is there a repository for system specific installs (I did look in http://php-java-bridge.sourceforge.net/pjb/installation.php and no Macintosh examples there)? If there isn't one now, I can create one. Where should I send it? --- Kent Behrends BEHR Consulting |
