Most people who downvote on this site either half-read the question or don’t know the answer. But when I ask easy questions, they suddenly get it, feel smart for once, and upvote.
So if people with lower reputations than you downvote your question, take it as proof you asked something too difficult for them — they don’t know the answer, so they panic and click down.
(But of course, if someone with higher reputation downvotes… yeah, your question’s probably bad.)
