I have following class header:

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(locations = "classpath:WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml")
public class OwnerTerminalsControllerTest

and following project structure:

How to fix this?

  • Put the file on the classpath. WEB-INF is not on the classpath. Commented Sep 23, 2015 at 15:17

  • It sure is, just check how you run your tests. Commented Sep 23, 2015 at 15:21
  • I didn't catch your comment. I run test from Idea. Commented Sep 23, 2015 at 15:25
  • Your test has a classpath. Change it to include what you need. Commented Sep 23, 2015 at 15:31

Go to Run --> Run Configurations --> Pickup your Junit test case --> Click on ClassPath tab and see if your config file is there.

If not click on Add Projects and add accordingly.

A detailed explanation is here. Java/Eclipse: How to configure Run Configuration's Classpath for JUnit test?

This topic has actually been covered numerous times, for example:

So next time I'd recommend you search before asking a question.

In any case, you have two options:

  1. Store your applicationContext.xml file in the classpath (e.g., in src/main/resources) and reference it as classpath:applicationContext.xml both in web.xml and in your integration test (i.e., @ContextConfiguration("classpath:applicationContext.xml")).
  2. Leave it in WEB-INF and reference it as follows in your integration test: @ContextConfiguration("file:src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml")
