How can i implement a constructor into a Controller of a FXML file? I need the constructor to get access to my superclass. I think the problem is that i got a initialize method beside the constructor.

I get the following error when i call the controller:

Thank you :)

edit: I just understood where the problem really is. I need the constructor to get information from a superclass. Because of that i need to extend the superclass in the class like this:

public class ControllerFavoriten extends favoriten implements Initializable

If i uncomment the extends favoriten part it loads the constructor and the initialize method.

  • so you want to intialize the class ControllerFavoriten using a costume constructor?If yes what is the root element of .fxml file.I mean it is a GridPane,a BorderPane ....? Commented Jun 18, 2016 at 18:32
  • The error message has nothing at all to do with inheritance. If removing inheritance appears to fix the problem it's because you have done something else too. The error message is complaining that there is no zero-argument constructor, which is needed by the default mechanism the FXMLLoader uses to instantiate the constructor. I generally recommend to use the fx:root construct wherever possible. (Note that the controller then has to extend a Node class.)

But this custom control then can provide constructors with arguments as well.

Please note that I've released some utility methods to simplify FXML loading. You can read more about it here.

package mypackage;

import org.drombler.commons.fx.fxml.FXMLLoaders;
...

public class MyPane extends SomePane {

    public MyPane(Foo foo) {
        super(foo);
        FXMLLoaders.loadRoot(this);
    }

    ...
}

Maven:

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.drombler.commons</groupId>
    <artifactId>drombler-commons-fx-core</artifactId>
    <version>0.7</version>
</dependency>

Thank you for your solution, but i have allready fixed it with another way. I used a singleton class to get access to the data i needed.
