TestContainer running a Selenium Chrome Driver, java.lang.NoSuchMethodError

Question

I am trying to run a Selenium test via a TestContainer.

This is failing via a NoSuchMethodError on ChromeOptions .addArguments(String...s)

However, if I call this directly from a test it passes and the addArguments(String...s) method is found, e.g.

However, if this method is called via the BrowserWebDriverContainer class, then it throws a NoSuchMethodError

This is my test method:

The Selenium 4.X support for the selenium Testcontainers module is currently an ongoing issue and has already been reported.

There's already an open PR to fix it but it's not yet integrated.

You can try to downgrade Selenium to 3.141.59 if you're not relying on any Selenium 4.X API.

Now I have been looking at it more, I don't understand why the correct version of ChromeOptions isn't called from BrowserWebDriverContainer?! Does TestContainers shade its dependencies? I can only see version 4.1.1 on my mvn dependency:tree

Testcontainers shades some dependencies but I guess not Selenium (see the last hint here). What happens if you downgrade Selenium?

It works when I downgrade :D I am only asking about 4.1.1 out of my own curiosity now, I don't understand why that would throw a NoMethodException, if the Selenium Jars aren't shaded and there is only one version in my dependencies
