On a fresh install of fedora, both my monitor and laptop screen were working perfectly fine, then after installing nvidia drivers, they installed successfully, but my secondary monitor connected via hdmi didnt work and was not being displayed in display settings. However, my gtx 1050 shows up in nvidia-msi but it says its off.

what can I do to fix this

After installing Nvidia drivers you can switch to the dGPU (Nvidia) in order to use external monitors. Commented Apr 15 at 19:52

You need to research "optimus based laptop fedora" Putting the quoted phrase in google should give you plenty of results Commented Apr 15 at 20:18
