Failed to execute goal in apache maven IntelliJ Idea

Question

I'm a beginner to maven and trying to make a project and successfully build it in IntelliJ Idea. My pom.xml is as follows:

And the error that I get is

Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:3.8.1:compile (default-compile) on project EAN-Scraper: Fatal error compiling

I already tried the changes as suggested here. My jdk version is 13. My project structure is attached below

There was an error in my plugin tag, Changed it to <plugin> <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId> <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId> <version>3.8.1</version> <configuration> <source>1.8</source> <target>1.8</target> </configuration> </plugin> and it built successfully. — mzaidi

There is a typo in the declaration of the compiler plugin:

<source>1.8}</source>
